According to this study, it used to be extracted from calf thymus glands, but today it's produced synthetically (thymalfasin). However, this doesn't seem to be very efficient, as they're also trying to produce it with genetically modified microorganisms (E. coli, yeast). Perhaps the production process is simply quite complex.
And it has to be stored at -20°C, and even at -180°C in the long term. Only in a special form does it keep for three weeks at room temperature – that's probably one reason why you can't just buy it as a dietary supplement.

A truly interesting post, especially the point that discussions about peptides often focus more on their mechanisms of action than on their actual clinical applications.

I work for Peptides.io, and we have recently been looking at many of these compounds – BPC-157, GHK-Cu, TB-500, KPV, Selank, Semax, etc. It is striking how often the biological mechanisms of action sound very convincing, but the data in humans is often considerably thinner than that from animal or laboratory studies.

This is probably the point where I would advise caution. Especially in the context of Lyme disease, I think it's important to distinguish between "this signaling pathway could theoretically be useful" and "it has actually been shown to help people with Lyme disease or post-Lyme symptoms."

Thymosin alpha-1 is probably the substance I'd most like to learn more about, as it has a longer history of human research compared to some others.

Have you come across any useful human studies specifically addressing TA1, KPV, or GHK-Cu in Lyme patients, or is most of the information you've seen based on indirect or preclinical data?
